The phases of the Moon

Have you ever wondered why the Moon can look different every night? There are eight key phases that the Moon goes through every 29.5 days, which is the same as one month.

The Moon’s orbit takes 29 days. When the Moon is orbiting it starts with a New Moon and the Waxing  Crescent follows the New Moon.

The  New Moon is black and when the New Moon is orbiting around Earth it changes shapes. If the New Moon is orbiting Earth the Waxing Crescent comes up and it looks like a banana shape!

After  the Waxing Crescent it is the First Quarter.First Quarter is like the  half of a hole Moon.

The Full Moon gets its light from the Sun and that means the Sun reflects its light to the Moon and that is how a Full Moon gets light.
